Description
ESCAP, in collaboration with the Department of Energy, Royal Government of Bhutan organized a two-day capacity-building training during 23-24 November 2022 on developing SDG7 Road Map using the National Expert SDG Tool for Energy Planning (NEXSTEP) framework. This framework uses the Low Emissions Analysis Platform (LEAP) as the core tool to undertake energy and emissions modelling, and perform economic analysis of the energy system. 30 participants from different government agencies, utilities, and power plant operators attended the training. The participants were provided a certificate of completion jointly signed by ESCAP and the Department of Energy.
The training program covered 10 different modules to offer detailed knowledge on LEAP including key assumptions and settings, developing current accounts, scenario building, energy modelling for the demand side, energy modelling for the supply side, emissions accounting, load-shape setting, and viewing and exporting results. In addition to the presentations and demonstration of LEAP, the participants worked on two case studies, one on the demand side and the other on the supply side, to gain hands-on experience in working with LEAP. Three sets of quizzes were used to assess the learning progress of the participants.
ESCAP sincerely acknowledges the great support of SEI in providing limited-time free access to LEAP for the participants.
